The Texas Rangers announced some big changes Tuesday to their arsenal of pitchers.
First, the team said that Neftali Feliz will be out the rest of the year with a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his elbow that will require season-ending Tommy John surgery.
The team is also moving pitcher Roy Oswalt to the bullpen to make room for 35-year-old RHP Ryan Dempster, who was picked up from the Cubs just minutes before the trade deadline Tuesday.
Dempster, who is 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA in 104 innings this season, will get his first start Thursday against the Angels.
The Rangers picked up Dempster for two minor-leaguers, Class-A 3B Christian Villaneuva and pitcher Kyle Hendricks.
Dempster was originally drafted by the Rangers in the third round of the 1995 First-Year Player Draft, according to a report on TexasRangers.com.
