Rangers' T-Shirt That Sparks Social Media Buzz Discontinued

T-shirt design is "obvious issue"

Major League Baseball knows it made a mistake in creating the official AL West Championship shirts for the Texas Rangers and says no more shirts will be shipped.

Fans lined up to buy the postseason gear after the Rangers beat the Angels 9-2, and some fans โ€” like Arlington City Council Member Robert Rivera โ€” took offense the design of the postseason shirt, which depicts the Dallas skyline.

According to Rangers' spokesman John Blake, the design was commissioned by Major League Baseball, which keeps shirt designs a secret from all clubs until they are released.

"The Rangers had nothing to do with the design of this T-shirt," said Blake. "MLB keeps the design a secret and we didn't see the shirts until the boxes were opened today."

The Rangers canceled additional designs of the shirt and requested the MLB to remove the design, Blake said.

On Monday, the MLB said no more shirts would be shipped.

"When designing shirts for teams that advanced to the Postseason, we incorporated a skyline theme for clubs," said VP of MLB Public Relations, Matt Bourne. "We made a mistake in using this design for the Rangers.  As a result we are not shipping any more skyline t-shirts to retailers and we are instead offering alternate Rangers Postseason shirts."

It had been a rough ride for the Rangers and their fans during the weekend. A dramatic loss on Saturday led to the division-clinching game Sunday, leaving the Ranger's pro shop packed full of fans ready to swipe up the championship gear.

"We waited in line and they were sold out," Siovhan Peoples said.

The Rangers head to Toronto Thursday to face off against the Blue Jays in the first round of the American League Divisional Series.
