Don't Expect Big Splash From Rangers Next Week

The Texas Rangers have some holes to fill this offseason, particularly in left field, in the middle or back end of the starting rotation and at catcher, whether it's as a starter or a backup/platoon mate to Robinson Chirinos.

But don't expect any big splashes from the Rangers next week at the MLB winter meetings, where many big deals are usually struck with high-profile free agents, because the Rangers already made their big splash for 2016 earlier this year.

When the Rangers acquired Cole Hamels from Philadelphia at the July 31 trade deadline, that was seen by most as a move for 2016 to have him paired atop the starting rotation with Yu Darvish, who missed all of 2015 after Tommy John surgery.

The Rangers also got Jake Diekman in that deal with the Phillies, and he ended up being a wonderful reliever for the Rangers down the stretch. Same goes for Sam Dyson, who was acquired literally moments before the deadline from Miami for third-string, minor-league catcher Tomas Telis. Dyson was awesome.

The Rangers now have a really strong looking bullpen and co-aces atop the rotation, and now the most important hole to address is in left field with a guy who hits from the right side. The Rangers likely won't have the money to spend on a big-named guy like Justin Upton or Yoenis Cespedes, and they'll more likely be looking for someone to pair up with oft-injured Josh Hamilton.

So expect some action from the Rangers in the coming days, just don't expect any huge splashes.
