Darvish Not Concerned With Thumb Cut

Yu Darvish had a pretty nasty looking cut appear on his right thumb during his last outing — a Friday night gem against the Houston Astros that the Rangers ended up winning 1-0 in extra innings. There was fear that it was a blister, though it would've been a really odd spot for one, but turns out it was a self-inflicted wound after he scratched the area with his fingernail while throwing a pitch.

Clearly, it didn't bother him, and the Rangers' ace said it won't bother him moving forward either, starting with his next scheduled start on Wednesday against Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners.

“Even when I was throwing, it didn't hurt me,” Darvish told reporters through a translator on Monday. “I've done this so many times that probably the nerve isn't working anymore, so it didn't hurt me at all.”

That's good to know, as the team clearly can't afford to lose Darvish for even one start at the moment.
