Like most of the Texas Rangers, Neal Cotts has had more than his fair share of downs in 2014 after a stellar 2013 that saw him become one of the game's best lefty setup relievers, with his 1.11 ERA, and all.
This season, his ERA currently stands at 3.20, a far cry from his pristine ERA last season. But considering where he was earlier this year, the 3.20 looks awesome.
Cotts will be a free agent this winter, so there's no incentive for the Rangers to keep him for the remainder of the season when they can get something in return for him prior to Thursday's MLB trade deadline and even re-sign him this winter if they're so inclined.
Cotts' value on the market has been increased lately, as he's beginning to pitch much better and look like the pitcher that rejuvenated an injury-riddle career last season after nearly four years away from the big leagues.
In Cotts' last 22 appearances, he's worked 22 2/3 innings and put up a nice, solid 1.99 ERA with 27 strikeouts. He's getting plenty of attention on the market, as any accomplished left-handed reliever would, and on Monday night against the Yankees, he was good once again, picking up his second hold in as many appearances.
It might've been Cotts' final appearance in a Rangers uniform this season, and possibly ever, but if so, he helped the Rangers out with a win and a buoyed value.
