Analyst Calls Prince One of Most Overrated Players

There are several talking heads and baseball analysts at ESPN.

Some of them on the television show Baseball Tonight named Prince Fielder as the No. 59 player in its ranking of the top 100 in the game. Another one, Dan Szymborski, the originator of the ZiPS projections we post every year, brought Fielder back down to Earth a bit.

He named Fielder as one of eight players on the list who are overrated, citing mainly his lack of defensive contribution as a primary designated hitter now.

"His 126 OPS+ in 2015 is nice, but it's not all that impressive for a player with absolutely no defensive value," Szymborski said.

Fielder missed most of 2014 with a neck injury that required cervical fusion, but he rebounded in 2015 to hit .305 (the second-highest number of his career) with 23 homers and 98 RBIs.
