Alfaro Shines in Single-A ASG

The California-Carolina Single-A All-Star Game earlier this week pitted the best young players in the game from the California League against the same from the Carolina League, which features the Texas Rangers' Class-A affiliate from Hickory, N.C.

The Rangers' top prospect, and one of the game's best, catcher Jorge Alfaro is probably still two years away from catching in Arlington but he was shining on a somewhat national stage on Tuesday when he stood out from the crowd in the all-star game.

Alfaro, a 20-year-old who the Rangers hope will be their next Pudge, tripled in the game and showed his foot speed on the bases while also cutting down a potential base-stealer at second base.

Pudge Rodriguez has taken a particular liking to Alfaro in his role in the Rangers' front office as a special catching instructor and worked with him extensively in the spring in Arizona.
