Agent: Rangers, Beltre Likely For Extension

There's one thing we can all agree on, and if there are any dissenters, you might just want to stay quiet: Adrian Beltre is the greatest thing that has ever happened to baseball in DFW, and yes I fully realize what I'm saying there with apologies to Nolan, Juan and Pudge.

Beltre is what the kids call the GOAT, and there is no realistic debate to say otherwise. Sorry, folks.

After the Rangers gave Beltre an option year last year, he's playing his final season in 2016 under contract before he's set to become a free agent next winter, unless of course, they extend him.

According to Beltre's agent, the polarizing Scott Boras, the Rangers and Beltre have definitely had the discussion, and Rangers general manager Jon Daniels has also publicly expressed interest in a contract extension several times in recent months.

“I think Adrian already had a discussion with them, in which he expressed a desire to stay,” Boras told Fox Sports. “They want him there, and we're going to work on that.”

There's a general rule in baseball that Boras clients don't sign extensions, instead electing to go free agency, but there might be an exception in Beltre's case given the mutual love between the Rangers and the 17-year MLB veteran.
