After Profar, 2B Options Are Limited

With the news coming out on Tuesday that Jurickson Profar was shut down for at least a week from doing anything with shoulder tendinitis hours after being cleared to begin throwing, the Texas Rangers are a slow rehab away from being in a jam come Opening Day.

Profar, who is set to become an everyday player for the first time at age 21, should be ready to go on Opening Day from all indications, but if he has anymore setbacks that could be in jeopardy. So what will the Rangers do if Profar can't play when the Rangers open the season on March 31 against the Philadelphia Phillies? There are a few options, but none are good.

There's veteran utility infielder Adam Rosales, who bounced back and forth between the Rangers and A's a few times in a matter of weeks last year as the two teams played hot potato with him before he eventually stuck with the Rangers. That's not a great option.

The other equally bad, yet much more intriguing option is prospect Rougned Odor, who was invited to big-league camp as a realistic guy to take a look at, not a bit to get a kid hanging around big-leaguers for a few days.

Odor has tons of potential, but he's not ready to be a big-leaguer yet. So with that said, the Rangers better cross their fingers that Profar can get better pretty quickly.
