With the Rangers' surprising season in the books, let's take a look at the season on a position-by-position basis.
2015 designated hitter
The guy: Prince Fielder
After playing the first month of the season at first base, while Mitch Moreland was the designated hitter, Fielder quickly realized Moreland is a better defensive first baseman than he was and paved the way for a switch.
It worked out pretty well.
Designated hitters are paid to do one thing, obviously, and Fielder earned every bit of his paycheck in 2015, despite a colossal tank job in the playoffs. That withstanding, Fielder led the Rangers in batting average (.305), tied for the team lead with Moreland for homers (23) and led the team in RBIs (98). It was his best season since 2012 back with Detroit.
Frankly, if not for Fielder's bat, the Rangers' April would've been worse than it already was, and every win ended up mattering for the Rangers as they finally clinched the AL West on the season's final day.
