OK, So Nolan Is In Fact on the Superman Project

"Dark Knight" genius helping out the Man of Steel

First everyone got all giddy about the news that Christopher Nolan was working as "godfather" to the "Superman" relaunch. Then a DC Comics exec shot down that notion, deflating the general sense of glee about the project. Now Nolan's admitting that he is actually lending a hand to the Man of Steel.

Nolan's involvement was the result of a brainstorming with "Dark Knight" co-writer David S. Goyer, who pitched a new angle on Superman. No director has been named for the project.

“He basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman,’” Nolan told the Los Angeles Times. “I immediately got it, loved it and thought, 'That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting.' I wanted to get Emma [Thomas, Nolan’s wife and fellow producer] and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.”

Naturally, Nolan refused to divulge any details about the story, but who cares? If Nolan was able to save Batman from Joel Schumacher, imagine what he can do with the scraps left on the table by "Superman Returns" director Byran Singer.

Nolan's next film, "Inception," which he promises will be bigger than Batman, is due in theaters July 16.
