Writers Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg have added the great Liev Schreiber to the cast of their semi-pro hockey comedy about a rag-tag band of underdogs that rely on thuggery to overcome their opponents.

No, it's not a remake of "Slap Shot"--the only movie worth a damn that's set in the world of organized hockey--but "Goon," which also stars Baruchel, Seann William Scott and Alison Pill (the surly drummer from "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World").

"Goon" tells the story of a bouncer "labeled an outcast by his brainy family" who "overcomes long odds to lead a team of under performing misfits to semi-pro hockey glory, beating the crap out of everything that stands in his way," according to the synopsis at IMDB.

Before even heading into production, "Goon" is already confronted with the problem of having a name nearly identical to that of an upcoming animated comedy "The Goon," which is being produced by David Fincher and starring the voices of Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown, and is based on the comic book of the same name.

The Summer of Baruchel continues with this animated adventure about a young boy who's too wimpy to be a proper Viking, but is smart enough to capture and tame a dragon. Features the voices of Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, JOnah Hill and Kristen Wiig.

Considering "The Goon" is already established in the pop culture firmament, it seems inevitable that "Goon" will have to change its name. How do you like the sound of "Thug"?

Baruchel looked like he was poised to blow up this year after the huge success of "How to Train Your Dragon" and the modest profit made by "She's Out of My League," but that epic bomb that was "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" took quite a bit of air out of his balloon. Let's hope he gets his mojo back.
