Kristen Wiig Is a “Clown Girl”

Determined not to follow the majority of female Saturday Night Live alumni down the drain into obscurity, Kristen Wiig has ponied up her own dough for the option on "Clown Girl," which she plans to adapt for the silver screen.

What's "Clown Girl" about you say? From Publisher's Weekly:

Nita, otherwise known as Sniffles the Clown, is tying balloon animals for a horde of greedy, sticky children at a fair. Suffering what may be a cardiac event, she's rushed to the hospital—after trying to get help from a clown fetishist, who simply drops his phone number on top of her prone form. Welcome to wacky, stressful Baloneytown, where clown prostitution, stoned dogs and fire juggling–cum–arson are the norm. Nita struggles to make enough money clowning to keep herself in oversized shoes and squirting daisies, while also saving for Clown College tuition for her boyfriend, handsome clown Rex Galore. But Rex is mostly MIA, and Nita's longing for him settles on local cop Jerrod.

Of course this could take a while to get started, as Wiig is currently busy with both "SNL" and "The Film Formerly Known as 'Bridesmaids,'" which co-stars Maya Rudolph, Jon Hamm and Rose Byrne.

Wiig is, with the possible exception of Bill Hader, the most talented comedian on the cast of "SNL" right now. After years of supporting roles in a number of films, including "MacGruber" later this month, Wiig is wisely taking her career in her own hands, developing scripts for herself, rather than playing second-banana to her male counterparts.
