Kirsten Dunst is cool with being untangled from Spider-Man’s web.

“I feel like it was time,” the actress, who starred as Mary Jane Watson opposite Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker in three “Spider-Man” films directed by Sam Raimi, told Popcorn Biz.

Dunst said she wasn’t disappointed when Sony Pictures tabled a planned fourth sequel with the original team in favor of a reboot starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and directed by Mark Webb (“500 Days of Summer”).

“Sometimes they always want to push things for money reasons or whatever, and I think that it just didn’t come together the way they probably had wanted or envisioned,” she said.

The actress -- who’s starring in “All Good Things” after a two-year hiatus from the big screen -- is proud of what she, Maguire and Raimi achieved with the original franchise.

“I felt like what we had during those films was so special, me and Tobey and Sam -- It was such a unique experience,” she said. “It was these independent minds and actors, and we were making this huge film, and it’s great. All these kids are such huge fans, and to be part of a movie like that is very special, especially a good franchise. So to end on three, I think is the perfect way to leave it.”

And she does plan on being part of the new film – as an audience member.

“Of course I’m going to see the movie! Yeah, of course!” Dunst said. “I like Andrew Garfield so much as an actor, and Emma Stone, so I think they’ll be great in the new version.”
