First-time fatherhood is hard enough without the cameras chronicling your every misstep - but Mario Lopez is taking on both his first child and his first full-time reality show.
Lopez, still known to his legion of fans for his pop-iconic stint on "Saved By the Bell," will premiere "Saved By the Baby" on VH1 starting Nov. 1.
The star will open the doors of his home as he and his girlfriend Courtney Mazza welcome their baby girl Gia in the world. Gia was actually born last month, but we'll start well before that.
Lopez told PopcornBiz that it's not going to be 24-7 reality.
"It's not as bad as you would think," he says, speaking from a ping-pong themed birthday party thrown for him by Celsius energy drink on Saturday. "We capture key moments and a great deal of time of us at home."
Indeed, Mazza tells us that it's not going to be "cameras in our face the moment we wake up."
But the show will document "our journey through our pregnancy," she says. For example, the camera will follow the couple as they head to Mazza's breastfeeding class.
"Though," Mazza adds helpfully, "Mario will not be breastfeeding." Um, thanks for that!
A lot of the show will deal with Lopez, one of the hardest working guys in showbiz, trying to deal with his new responsibilities.
"It's finding the balance for Mario as far as juggling his career and home - he's so busy and he's always taking on so many projects," says Mazza. "Now that you have a family it's sort of like where do you draw the line? And when do you start saying no to certain things?"
Lopez says that the show will showcase his actress girlfriend. "It's a great platform for my girl," says Lopez. "She's very funny."
