Banks, Deschanel and Mortimer Join Paul Rudd's “Idiot Brother”

It was recently announced that Paul Rudd is taking the title role in "My Idiot Brother," about a man who's three sisters loom large in his life. Now the identity of his siblings has been revealed.

Elizabeth Banks, who co-starred with Rudd in "Role Models," will play his career-oriented journalist sister; Zooey Deschanel is the wifty bisexual whose head-in-the-clouds ways are endangering her relationship with her girlfriend, played by Rashida Jones (Rudd's "I Love You, Man" co-star); and Emily Mortimer is an earnest yuppie parent blind to her own failing marriage. Unless there are multiple fathers involved, someone's gonna have to dye their hair.

It sounds like the success of this film could hinge on the casting of the mother, but thus far there's enough talent in place to hold our interest.

The story centers around Rudd "dealing with his over-bearing mother who crashes at the homes of his three ambitious sisters and brings truth, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives while also wreaking havoc," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Idiot" is being directed by Jesse Peretz ("Important Things With Dmitri Martin") from a script co-written by his sister Vanity Fair contributing editor Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall. How Jesse feels about his sister's choice of title remains to be seen.
