Short Sale Planned for R. Kelly's Custom Mansion

R. Kelly's plan to stop making payments on his custom mansion in an attempt to force the lender to make a loan modification backfired big time. The lender didn't modify the loan and now the Grammy winner is set to sell his 22,000-square-foot estate for $1.595 million.

The R&B singer custom-built the home back in 1997, but made headlines earlier this year when he was hit with a $2.9 million foreclosure lawsuit, which cited R. Kelly as failing to make his monthly mortgage payments. The gigantic estate, located in Olympia Fields, Illinois, features six bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, a private lake, a jungle-themed indoor pool and theater room. For those curious, this is not the mansion where R. Kelly was accused (and acquitted) of making a sex tape with an underage girl.

The Chicago Tribune reports that R. Kelly has officially bid goodbye to gigantic estates such as this one and decamped to a high-floor unit in the Trump Tower in his hometown of Chicago.
