In a story that seemingly came out of nowhere, but apparently has been over a month in the making, former Cowboys’ receiver Terrell Owens could soon return to playing professional football in North Texas--this time as a member of the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League.
The Wranglers have reportedly been in talks with Owens and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus for some time now, and have offered the 38-year-old receiver a six-figure contract that would make Owens a co-owner, CEO and player for the team, whose 14-game season begins on February 25.
"It doesn't make a ton of financial sense, but it would make it the No. 1 fan experience in Collin County," said Wranglers owner Jon Frankel, per the Dallas Morning News. "The awareness of the team would skyrocket, and I would imagine we'd sell out every game."
As strange as the story sounds, multiple reports have the two sides very close to striking a deal, Wranglers head coach Pat Pimmel said this week.
"At first everybody thought it was a big joke but it wasn't a big joke. It's serious," Pimmel said. "It's real close. I think it will be within the next week or so. He would have never got his agent involved in it if he wasn't thinking about it. He can still play, you know that."
