Murray To Get First Career Start Sunday Night

One of the fun little footnotes about DeMarco Murray's record-setting day on Sunday is that he didn't even start the game against the Rams. That honor went to Tashard Choice, who proved useless by fumbling for the second straight game. Well, Jason Garrett's no fool. After seeing Murray hang two bills on the Rams, he's installed him as the starter for Sunday Night's pivotal game against the Eagles: From the Sporting News:

Rookie running back DeMarco Murray will follow up his record-setting performance against the Rams with his first career start against the Eagles on Sunday... coach Jason Garrett said Murray's play warrants that he gets the ball more going forward.

Don't forget that Phillip Tanner also scored a garbage time touchdown against the Rams and averaged 5.7 yards a carry on Sunday.

I wrote Monday that Murray's game signaled the end of Felix Jones, but there's more to it than that. This is an entire sea change at the position, with Jones and Choice giving way to the two rookies permanently.

Because Murray will get to face his second straight terrible run defense this week in the Eagles. He's going to get his yards, and by the time Jones is ready to come back, the Cowboys will have little use for him.

It's amazing how quickly the guard can change in the NFL. If you look back on Larry Johnson taking over for Priest Holmes, or Jamaal Charles doing likewise to Johnson, the torch gets passed quickly and often permanently, without much warning. Murray is the starter on Sunday, and likely for many a Sunday after that.
