Second-year safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah took over return duties in the team’s 44-7 drubbing of the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, and according to Jerry Jones, he’s there to stay--for now, anyway.
Jones spoke to 105.3 The Fan today, and said that Owusu-Ansah would continue to return kicks and punts in this week’s divisional match-up with the Washington Redskins. What’s more, Jones is looking forward to seeing what the second-year man can do with the role, after a quiet day in Buffalo. Owusu-Ansah was called up for that game after Dwayne Harris, another practice squad member with return experience, suffered a hamstring injury.
"I'm excited," Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. "He didn't really get the opportunity to do it the other day. But both on kickoffs and punts, we trust him catching the ball and it's the most fundamental thing you look for. He has size and speed and he did it well at a low competition when he was in college, but he's got a chance. You talk about his instincts. We're going to get a chance to see what he can do for us."
Owusu-Ansah’s return to the role of return man--he returned some in his rookie season, as well--was admittedly uneventful. He had two chances at punt returns, and he returned one for four yards and called for a fair catch on the other, and both of Buffalo’s kickoffs went for touchbacks.
