The Dallas Cowboys took a usually comfortable 28-7 lead over the Buffalo Bills into halftime on Sunday, but according to Jerry Jones, he couldn’t help but think of a time not so long ago, when his team blew an historically comfortable lead to the Detroit Lions--setting a franchise record by surrendering a 24-point lead.
Unlike the Detroit game, of course, the Cowboys held their lead on Sunday. The Dallas defense allowed no points after half. Tony Romo threw no interceptions. Cowboys fans didn’t scream at their TVs, at least not in anger.
But admittedly, the thought was there for Jones.
“I know we all kept thinking Detroit, Detroit, Detroit,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. “I saw us not help Buffalo do the kind of things that can create a Detroit, so I see gaining on it. I saw it in the play-calling. I saw it in the way our team performed. That’s good stuff. That makes me feel real good.”
