On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys announced that the’ve agreed to hold training camp in Oxnard, California in each of the next three years--and, following in the footsteps of any number of his predecessors who lauded the location, head coach Jason Garrett is looking forward to the team’s return.
“There are lot of benefits,” Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. “It’s a great training camp environment for us. Certainly the weather is great, the fields are really good, the proximity of everything within your day is really good. The weight room, the meeting rooms it’s a confined area that’s easy for us to move around. The people have been great. They’ve treated us really well out there.”
In 2010, Dallas split camp between Oxnard, and San Antonio. Owner Jerry Jones, in a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan today, wanted to make clear that this doesn’t mean that San Antonio is out of the team’s training camp plans altogether.
“We certainly know what we have in San Antonio,” Jones said. “San Antonio has exactly the same percentage of Dallas Cowboys fans as we do in downtown Dallas -- 97 percent. So, when we take our team down there, we’re saying a lot of things. We’re wanting the country to see how much we value our Hispanic fans. San Antonio says that, plus it’s a great place to train in the Alamodome down there. So both of them are good. A long-winded answer, but we’re going to be doing both to some degree.”
