Garrett: Laurent Robinson Is Only Going To Improve

The Dallas Cowboys first signed Laurent Robinson just before the regular season opener. Shortly after that, he suffered a hamstring injury, and was cut. Then, somewhat ironically, he was signed again after no. 1 receiver Miles Austin suffered a hamstring injury of his own.

But it wasn’t until last Sunday that Robinson gave fans a reason to remember that name, pronounced “La-ron,” catching seven passes for 116 yards. Maybe more important than the numbers, quarterback Tony Romo seemed to have an immediate rapport with Robinson; he was targeted 10 times against Detroit, which is exactly as many targets as Romo’s oldest pal and favorite target Jason Witten got.

The performance left head coach Jason Garrett thinking about the 26-year-old’s potential.

“For someone who was not with us in training camp and on and off the roster he’s really stepped in and understand what to do and how to do it,” Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. “I think the quarterbacks have a real comfort level throwing to him. He’s demonstrated the ability to run past defenses and make plays underneath. He’s only going to improve.”
