Even with the return of Felix Jones two weeks ago, rookie DeMarco Murray appears poised to remain the Dallas Cowboys’ featured back, charged with doing most--or in the case of last week’s win over Miami, in which Jones didn’t have a carry--all of the work from out of the backfield.
As Jones’ health steadily improves, the distribution of carries is likely to change somewhat--but even if it doesn’t, Murray is confident that he can handle the work.
"I definitely feel I can handle it," Murray said, per the Dallas Morning News. "Been doing well with it. I think I've been doing well with the touches that they've given me. Picking up blitzes, catching some balls out of the backfield. Felix can do the same thing, so it just adds more depth to the running back."
Indeed, it seems like Dallas is playing it by ear as far splitting work between Jones and Murray is concerned; but with Murray riding a hot streak, and fully capable of taking over a game, we’d doubt that Jones will be returning to his role as starter anytime soon.
"I think I was just doing good," Murray said. "I was in a groove, so they left me out there. I think if he (Jones) was doing the same thing, he would get left out there too."
