Chris Jones Re-signed To Cowboys Practice Squad

With Mat McBriar slowly recovering from a left foot injury, ESPN Dallas reports that the Dallas Cowboys re-signed punter Chris Jones on Thursday, just about a day after he was cut in order to make room on the roster for guard Daniel Loper.

Jones cleared waivers today, allowing Dallas to bring him back into the fold as a member of the practice squad, and something of an insurance policy should McBriar hit a snag in his recovery.

McBriar has been dealing with the effects of nerve damage in his left leg, an injury that has limited the use of his left, or plant, foot. He was able to punt against Buffalo last week, but sat out against Seattle the week before. Since returning, McBriar has worn a device on the foot that helps him lift the leg on punts. He said on Wednesday that the pain of the injury had subsided but that the functionality of the foot wasn’t back yet.

Jones averaged 43 yards on three punts against Seattle two weeks ago, evidence that he could serve as a viable option for the team if the two-time All-Pro McBriar encounters any setbacks down the road.
