I long ago burned out on Fantasy Football. I can’t wrap my little brain around the FanDuelDraftKings craze. And I’ve wasted lots of time and a little money on not finishing first in those Eliminator Pools. But, alas, like of fans, I do like to have a little extra interest in Cowboys games.
So let’s do this: I just robbed an imaginary bank and pocketed a virtual $1,000. What better way to spend it than on some mythical wagering. I’ll start with my $1k bankroll and each week – usually on Thursday or Friday – I’ll analyze the upcoming Cowboys game and make a wager. With any luck, by Christmas it’ll be iPhone upgrades for everyone. Do I think we’ll win? You betcha!
You know how you know when you’re having a rotten season? When you pick the right team, but ultimately lose your wager when a missed field goal at the end of regulation turns into a touchdown in overtime.
My Cowboys +4 looked sweet all last week against the Saints. They led for most of the game, and were in position to lose by only three until New Orleans’ field goal caromed off the goal post. Then, second play of overtime, 80-yard touchdown pass. A 3-point loss turned into a 6-point loss. And just like that, a winner deteriorated into a loser.
This week, however, looks like the perfect bounce-back bet. I’m nothing if not resilient.
Tom Brady vs. that Cowboys’ defense. Hide the women and children. We’re in for an epic beatdown.
I know Greg Hardy will be shot out of a cannon and Rolando McClain’s return is going to help. But the Cowboys’ defense just isn’t that good to begin with. In all honestly, it wasn’t great last year. More merely helped by a running game that ate up clock and kept it on the sidelines.
But this year, Dallas is being exposed. And no one better – or worst – to yank the covers off than Brady. Only way the Cowboys keep it close is by scoring but ... No Romo, No Dez and not even a Lance Dunbar. No chance.
The line is somehow only minus-9. I’d be tempted to take the Patriots minus-19.
Patriots 34, Cowboys 17.
STARTING BANKROLL: $1,000
CURRENT BANKROLL: $610
SEASON RECORD: 1-3
LAST WEEK: 0-1, -220
THIS WEEK: Patriots minus-9 over Cowboys for $300.
