Witten Ranks 36th In NFL Network's “Top 100 of 2011”

Five Cowboys have been announced in the NFL Network’s ongoing feature, the Top 100 Players of 2011, the latest being tight end Jason Witten, who came in at no. 36.

Witten beat out fellow tight ends Tony Gonzalez (Atlanta Falcons, 46), Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts, 78) and Vernon Davis (San Francisco 49ers, 88) on the list. Unless a drastic mistake is made, leaving him off the list completely, San Diego’s Antonio Gates will be the only tight end to rank ahead of Witten on the list.

The Cowboys’ captain was presented by the aforementioned Davis, who credited Witten with having the best hands in football and saying that he watches film of Witten to improve his own game. In 2010, Witten pulled in 94 catches for 1,002 yards and nine touchdowns--arguably the best season of his career.

The other Cowboys on the list are nose tackle Jay Ratliff (75), quarterback Tony Romo (72), Miles Austin (70) and Andre Gurode (57). Linebacker DeMarcus Ware will (we’ll assume) be the highest ranking member of the Cowboys, but has yet to be announced on the list.
