Witten Passes Drew Pearson

With 24 receiving yards against Philly, Jason Witten surpassed Pearson in terms of receiving yards

With 24 yards on four receptions against the Eagles, Cowboys’ tight end Jason Witten passed Ring of Honor member and “the original 88” Drew Pearson in terms of receiving yards to become the third most prolific receiver in franchise history in terms of yards. Witten now has 7,840 yards for his career while Pearson had 7,822, but according to Witten, the timing of this landmark, and others, could have been a bit better.

Witten also passed Ozzie Newsome on the list of receptions all-time for a tight end earlier in the season, but for now, the veteran is focused on trying to secure a playoff spot against New York next week--which doesn’t allow for much time to enjoy these accomplishments.

“It seems like these are coming at kind of odd times, when you can’t really enjoy it,” Witten said, per ESPN Dallas. “There are a lot of great players here who have worn the star on their helmet. To be mentioned with some of those guys is definitely humbling. I feel good.

“You just do everything to help your team win. Try to stay in the moment. I’m sure [when] I look back at it, I’ll enjoy it a lot more than I do right now. I’m staying focused on this opportunity we do have.”
