Williams Not Ready To Crown The Saints

Suffice it to say, things aren't looking so pretty for the Dallas Cowboys.

At 8-5, the team is sliding. The New Orleans Saints are rolling. The two will meet on Saturday night on the NFL Network in a game that will see the Cowboys, very probably, rendered DeMarcus Ware-less. The washed-up football player/talking head set on ESPN scoff at all things blue and silver, and each time Jason Garrett orchestrates a predictable pass-run-pass three and out, a baby cries.

But the Cowboys haven't, at least publicly, thrown in the towel just yet. Roy Williams can't wait to play the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans, and he'll be bringing a keen sense of sarcasm with him.

"Might as well crown them, right?" Williams said before Tuesday's practice. "They’re undefeated. It’s December. We don’t have a chance."

This is the man, after all, who very sarcastically wondered at the fact that Dallas won its first game without Terrell Owens on the back of a strong performance by Tony Romo. Where some see the Superdome as a potential shambles, Williams sees an opportunity to reverse fortunes in a remarkable fashion.

"If we pack our bags and show up in New Orleans on Saturday night," Williams continued, "we should be victorious."

This won't likely send folks running for the sports book to bet the farm on the Cowboys, but it's nice to see (or, I suppose, hear) some bravado, a quality that was remarkably absent from last Sunday's 20-17 loss. Williams, still, went a step further.

"This is a two-round fight, and this is just the first round, in my eyes," Williams said. "I don't know about everybody else, but I think we're going to see this team in the playoffs down the road."
