Why Jerry Jones Didn't Become a Coach

Hint: It was the money

It should come as a surprise to no one that Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones used to want to be a coach.

After all, Jones fancies himself a football man, having played on a National Championship team at Arkansas; he essentially fired Jimmy Johnson in 1994 because he wouldn’t allow him to act like a coach and he’s led all owners in sideline roaming since buying the team in 1989.

So why didn’t Jones become a coach?

In a word, money. Which also isn’t a massive shock.

"At every step of the way, I wanted more,” Jones said on Undeniable with Joe Buck on Audience Sports, via the Dallas Morning News. “I would have been a coach. I love football so much and I love sports so much, but I saw what coaches made and I wanted to do better than that, than what coaches made. Now, had I known what I was going to be paying them now, I had been a damn coach.”
