As a rookie in 2015, Lucky Whitehead made most of his impact on special teams, with just six catches on eight targets for 16 yards as a receiver. In 2016, Whitehead hopes to see those numbers go up, and he’s working this offseason to make that happen.
“I’ve been working on becoming more of a complete receiver,” Whitehead said. “I’m trying to learn the playbook more so that I can contribute on the offense more than just on special teams. I feel like my routes are getting better and I’m learning more.”
After joining the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic, Whitehead averaged 28.3 yards per kickoff return, and 5.8 per punt return as a rookie. He fully intends to hold onto the role of return man in addition to his quest to become a better receiver.
“I work every day after OTA practice on my return game and my punt returning,” Whitehead said. “I expect to be doing the majority of the work returning and we’re just working on different ways to return the ball.”
