As the legend goes, when a slightly soused Jerry Jones told media members that he was going to fire Jimmy Johnson in that hotel bar all those years ago--this despite the fact that Johnson had just brought a second consecutive Super Bowl title to Dallas--a great part of the reason was that Jones didn’t feel Johnson was willing to give him the proper credit for his role in the team’s success.
As we all know, Johnson is long gone. Jerry’s still here. And he still thirsts for credit, apparently.
The Cowboys owner and general manager said this week that whenever the Cowboys do return to the NFL’s mountain top--and judging by recent history, it could be awhile--he wants to be there, and he wants plaudits for his work.
“I would grant you the decisions that have been made over the years have not produced a Super Bowl, two Super Bowls or three Super Bowls that I would like to have been a part of,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. “And the only thing I am going to do there is keep trying and then make sure I get the credit when we do get that one.
“Y’all are going to give it to me, aren’t you?”
Uh, sure, Jerry. Sure.
