Was Murray's Performance A Fluke?

Jon Ritchie used to be an NFL fullback with the Oakland Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, he spends his days weighing in on topics on ESPN’s “First Take,” or whatever it’s called now--and yesterday, the topic of DeMarco Murray’s record-setting rushing performance against the Rams was brought up.

Ritchie, and Troy Aikman’s old pal Skip Bayless, then took turns positing that the performance was a fluke.

"Heading into this game he was averaging under three yards a carry," Ritchie said of Murray, via the Dallas Morning News. "This will never happen again, in my opinion. I like DeMarco Murray as a back, I do. And I think he catches the ball really well. I have issues with his pad level, at times, but against these Rams, it didn't matter. They're going in trying to tackle him high. No. 32 against the run coming in."

Added Bayless: "I’ll just say he's not the real deal. I'm not going to trust that DeMarco will save the day without Felix Jones"

Whether "it" will happen again seems doubtful, as "it" was a record-setting performance, better statistically than any in the 51-year history of the Cowboys existence. Granted. But as for the idea that he's a "one-hit wonder" Murray will get a chance to dispel this notion on Sunday night, when he gets his first career  start against the Eagles. The Eagles will come into that game no. 23 in the league against the run.
