Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware took a little bit of ribbing from defensive line coach Rod Marinelli last week, after finishing with several quarterback pressures but no sacks against the Giants. The Monday after the win, Ware found a cigar taped to his locker with a note from Marinelli attached. It read, “Close but no cigar.”
There will be no cigars taped to Ware’s locker this week, after he finished with two sacks of the Chiefs’ Alex Smith--one of just a few bright spots to take from the 17-16 road loss and perhaps a sign that Ware has come out of his sack slump.
Ware would have had a third sack but the Chiefs were flagged for a delay of game. He sat out the final defensive snaps of the game after being dinged up on that play, but Ware doesn’t believe it’s anything to worry about.
“It was just some shoulder stuff,” Ware said, per the Dallas Morning News. “But I’m fine."
