Earlier this offseason, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reasoned that his team’s defense would be better this season, because there’s just no way they can be as bad as they were last season--when, statistically, the Dallas defense had the worst season in the 54-year history of the franchise.
Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher--who reportedly drew interest from Dallas after Sean Lee suffered a season-ending torn ACL on the first day of OTAs--apparently agrees with Jerry’s take.
It doesn’t hurt that Urlacher’s old defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, is taking over as the DC in Dallas in 2014.
"They're going to be better because last year they were so bad," Urlacher said, per FOX Sports. "They didn't run any Cover-2 last year. Monte Kiffin was calling the defense, it wasn't my man Rod Marinelli, who is going to be calling the defense this year, so it will be a lot of Cover 2."
In 2013, the Cowboys defense allowed an average of 415 yards of offense per game.
