The new “Triplets” are doing what the old ones accomplished back in the ‘90s. And a 6-1 start will lead to a Super Bowl. Right, Emmitt?
“It’s too early,” Smith said this morning on KRLD-FM. “You want to see this for the next three or four years.”
Obviously Smith is correct. Six consecutive wins by talented offensive players doesn’t come close to approaching three Super Bowls in four years in the ‘90s. Nonetheless, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher is one of the many former critics now attempting to wedge his way onto the bandwagon.
“To be able to watch the Cowboys absolutely committing themselves to running the football has been phenomenal for me as a fan,” Smith continued. “Watching DeMarco Murray perform under those type of situations has been an absolute pleasure. To me, that’s the one thing the Cowboys were definitely missing was a complete running game or commitment to the running game. Now that they have it, they’re starting to see the balance that I believe is the formula for success.”
Fans forget that the early ‘90s’ Cowboys featured the NFL’s No. 1-ranked defense. Still, it’s nice to see a running game setting up a passing game.
And it’s refreshing – and a reality check – to hear Emmitt saying the Cowboys and their fans shouldn’t go too fast too soon.
