Stephen Jones: Brent Left Sunday's Game To Avoid Being A Distraction

Josh Brent could be seen on the Cowboys' sidelined during the win over Pittsburgh

A good deal was made of nose tackle Josh Brent’s presence on the sidelines during Sunday’s victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. As the story goes, neither Jerry Jones nor Jason Garrett knew he’d be there, and according to executive vice president Stephen Jones, Brent took his exit from Cowboys Stadium when he realized he might be becoming a distraction.

The last thing he wants to do is be a distraction,” Jones told 105.3 FM “The Fan” on Monday, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “He got word that he was showing up on television, and he made the decision that he was going to go home.”

Jones continued that Brent’s presence was the result of his teammates reaching out to him.

“I think what happened is Josh had planned not to be there,” Jones said. “It was our understanding a few of his teammates who are on injured reserve had gone by to get him, to try to keep his spirits up, and obviously came to the game.”
