Secondary Coach: “We've All Got a Point to Prove”

The Cowboys finished dead last in the league in defense last season

Cowboys secondary coach Jerome Henderson knows his unit had a miserable year in 2013. He knows his players know it, too.

So it’s no surprise that Henderson and his players are entering 2014 with a sizable chip on their collective shoulder.

I think we’ve all got a point to prove,” Henderson told the team’s official website. “You know, last year wasn’t a good year for us on defense statistically, so we all have a point to prove and we’ve got to come out every day and prove it to ourselves first, so opening day we can go out and have better results than last year.”

Of course, Henderson saying last year was not a good year is a big understatement. Not only did the Cowboys finish dead last in defense last year, 2013 marks the worst statistical season in the 54-year history of the franchise.

That’s a tough pill to swallow, but Henderson says the defense is using the ugly memories of last year as motivation.

“Nobody wants to look at last year and take ownership of that, but we have to,” he said. “We’ve got to get better from there and we cannot let that happen again.”
