Orlando Scandrick has made it clear that Orlando Scandrick isn’t planning on playing any safety in 2012.
With Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Mike Jenkins and Scandrick on the roster, some have wondered if Dallas wouldn’t attempt to use Scandrick occasionally as a sort of cornerback-safety hybrid. But then the option was brought up to the Boise State product recently, he responded flatly, per ESPN Dallas, “Not happening.”
The idea of using a hybrid like this was reportedly considered a possibility when Wade Phillips was running the defense, but Scandrick remains pretty convinced that he is, and will only be a cornerback.
“It’s not the schematics of things,” Scandrick said. “A couple of years ago, we had a different defensive coordinator. Brodney Pool, Gerald Sensabaugh and Barry Church are our safeties. Orlando Scandrick, Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr and Mike Jenkins are our corners.”
Of course, the decision isn’t really Scandrick’s to make. And we’d imagine that if it came down to playing or not, Scandrick might soften in his stance against playing a new position.
