The Cowboys stuck around for a while in the first half, but the Saints eventually ran away by a final score of 49-17 on Sunday night in New Orleans. Dallas allowed a franchise-high 626 yards of offense.
Dallas took the lead when Dan Bailey made a 37-yard field goal early in the first quarter, but the lead didn’t last long. The Saints took over on a 22-yard pass from Drew Brees to Marques Colston, which gave the Saints a 7-3 lead.
It looked like it’d be a game for a minute, when a seven-yard run by DeMarco Murray put Dallas back in the driver’s seat at 10-7. But then three touchdowns--a one-yard pass from Brees to Pierre Thomas, a three-yard run by Darren Sproles and a 28-yard catch by Sproles--made things decidedly grim for the Cowboys, at 28-10 going into half.
Mark Ingram took a run four yards for a touchdown to open up the second half, 35-10. Dallas answered with a 21-yard pass from Tony Romo to Terrance Williams late in the third quarter but it was all New Orleans in the fourth. Kenny Stills caught a 52-yard pass from Brees and then Thomas took in a one-yard run. The final was 49-17, Saints.
Dallas has a bye next week.
