No. 9 is No. 9 in Jersey Sales

Tony Romo hasn’t played a down of football since he took a nasty hit from linebacker Michael Boley of the New York Giants in a Monday night game last October, fracturing his collarbone. In terms of popularity, however, Romo took no hit at all.

In a ranking compiled by Game On! and published today in USA Today, which studied NFL.com jersey sales from April 1, 2010 to March 1, 2011, Romo’s no. 9 jersey was the ninth most popular in football.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Troy Polomalu’s no. 43 remains the most popular in the NFL according to the ranking, beating out Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers and Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees, who finished second and third, respectively.

Ahead of Romo also are Tim Tebow (5), Michael Vick (6), Tom Brady (7) and Clay Matthews (8). The New York Giants’ Eli Manning rounds out the top ten.
