Romo Applies For US Open

Tony Romo loves three things: football, dating absurdly beautiful blond women, and golf.

This article is about the least interesting of the three, which, really, is still pretty interesting. Romo, who was voted by Golf Magazine as the best athlete-golfer in the world, is among the 9,000 or so people to have applied for a chance to qualify for the US Open, which will be held between June 17-20 at Pebble Beach, per USGA.com (and the DMN).

Joining Romo from the celebrity set will be former MLB pitcher John Smoltz, kicker Ryan Longwell and former quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver.

Romo likely hopes that the fourth time is a charm; he's attempted to qualify for each of the last three Opens, and has failed to make the cut each time. Since then, he's played in several Pro-Ams, joining, among other, John Daly and (ahem) Tiger Woods.

The timing of the event could hardly be better for Romo--one of the Cowboys' mini-camp will wrap up on June 13, giving the Dallas quarterback time to warm up before the tournament commences on the 17th. Lucas Glover won last year's Open. Woods, Romo's old friend, won in 2008.
