Rob Ryan on Facing Cleveland: “Of Course It's Personal”

Ryan spent two seasons as the Browns' defensive coordinator before coming to Dallas

Earlier this week, Cowboys fullback Lawrence Vickers said that there would be a personal element in play for him on Sunday, when Dallas takes on Cleveland--the team that drafted Vickers. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has some history with the Browns, as well. He spent two seasons as defensive coordinator of the Browns--and like Vickers, he’s not shy in admitting that he has an extra source of motivation going into Sunday’s game.

Any time you pour everything into it,” Ryan said, per the Dallas Morning News, “and apparently management didn’t see it as good enough, of course it’s personal.”

Unlike in the case of Vickers, we get the feeling that Ryan--who was canned with one year remaining on his contract--holds some resentment toward Cleveland, which was hist last coaching stop before coming to Dallas prior to the 2011 season.

“It’s not like they asked me to stay,” Ryan said. “But they should have. But I would have said, ‘No.’”
