Rex Grossman Will Start Against Dallas

After starting the first five games of the season for the Washington Redskins, Rex Grossman was benched in favor of John Beck around a month ago. But Beck went 0-3 as the starter, prompting the ‘Skins to once again reverse course and give Grossman the start against Miami last week--which, of course, he lost.

But going into the division matchup with your Dallas Cowboys, Washington is sticking with Grossman as the starter--head coach Mike Shanahan made this clear during a news conference on Monday.

"Rex is going to be our quarterback," Shanahan said, per ESPN Dallas. "Are you going to have to ask me every day? We’ll go through the week, and when you go with a veteran quarterback, it’s pretty easy because usually that situation stays pretty much status quo. Unless there’s an injury during the week, Rex will be the quarterback, but crazier things could happen. He could go down during the week and [Beck] will be able to go if Rex goes down."

Funny thing is, at this point, it’s not all that ridiculous to think that the question is warranted each week. But Shanahan believes that Grossman is the team’s best option at this point, because, he said, the veteran is playing with more confidence than did Beck in his three-game jaunt as starter.

“I think if you look at somebody’s play, you know, he’s a little bit more confident," Shanahan said. "He’s been, obviously, under the gun a lot more than John has. But when you do miss the OTAs, you miss a lot of the preparation, you can kind of see it in somebody’s play. Rex got a lot more playing time and he played with a lot of confidence and made a bunch of good throws throughout the game."
