With free agency just a few hours away, Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware wants an answer from the team regarding his future.
According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Ware would like to know whether the team intends to keep him around--probably with a restructured or reduced contract--or make him a cap casualty before the beginning of the free agency period, Tuesday at 3 PM CT.
Ware, the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks with 117, would be due $12.25 million in 2014. He’s coming off an injury-plagued and relatively unproductive season, in which he put up just 40 tackles and six sacks--both career lows. He also missed three games with a quad injury and underwent surgery to repair nerve damage in his elbow.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has acknowledged in recent weeks that there was a good chance the team would be forced to part ways with Ware, as a result of their cap issues.
