Report: Texans Hire LB Coach Herring

The Houston Chronicle has reported that the Houston Texans have hired Dallas Cowboys’ linebackers coach Reggie Herring to the same role.

Herring served as Dallas’ linebackers coach from 2008 through 2010. He was hired by Wade Phillips prior to Phillips’ second season in Dallas. Phillips, of course, was brought on around two weeks ago as the Texans’ defensive coordinator.

Phillips had been targeting Herring for the role of linebackers since shortly after he landed the job in South Texas. The Texans’ first interview request was denied by the Cowboys, but on Tuesday, the team got their interview with the veteran coach--which many believe to be a sign that Rob Ryan, who was brought in officially this week as Dallas’ defensive coordinator, wants to assemble his own staff.
