Report: Players May File Injunction For Rookies, Free Agents

In news that will, at best, further complicate negotiations between players and owners, and at worst, throw them into a chaotic state, it’s being reported today that players may file for an injunction on behalf of rookies and free agents, whose opportunity to sign contracts is shrinking with each passing, football-less day.

According to Pro Football Talk, which cites an unnamed source close to the negotiations, it is unclear when the motion would be filed--but it would effectively end the lockout for the aforementioned players.

Should the motion be filed, players not currently under contract would be free to sign with teams, and, after doing so, would be locked out again. If it sounds bizarre, it is--in a memo obtained by ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, actually, one lawyer described the potential scenario as “bizarre chaos.”

Then again, there has been talk today of positive movement on both sides. Which is good, but we’ve heard this before, usually followed by reports that the sides have regressed again.
