Report: Owners to Vote on New Deal Today

This could mean the beginning of the end of the lockout, or it could mean another frustrating teaser, the sort of which has left us a little bit jaded throughout this summer. Either way, the owners will vote on a new deal today.

ESPN reports that a vote on the new deal will take place between 3:30 and 5:30 PM Eastern time today at the owners meetings in Atlanta. A 3/4 majority of the owners must approve the deal for it to pass, though it is thought that the current deal has enough support among the owners’ ranks to get through.

Then, of course, the deal will have to be okayed by the players. A majority of the nearly 2,000 players in the NFLPA must vote in favor of the deal for it to be approved. According to reports, NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith has scheduled a conference call for 8:00 PM ET tonight, though we don’t know the purpose of the call, whether or not a vote will be taken at that time.
