Report: Norv Turner “Close” to Joining Vikings

Turner would join the staff of another former Cowboys coordinator, Mike Zimmer

It looks like one former Cowboys coordinator will soon join the staff of another former Cowboys coordinator in Minnesota.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Norv Turner is close to a deal to become the Vikings offensive coordinator. He would join the staff of Mike Zimmer, who was hired as the Vikes’ head coach earlier this week.

Turner was the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator from 1991-1993. His new boss (probably?), Zimmer, was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator from 2000-2006.

Earlier this offseason, it was thought that Dallas--a team that struggled mightily with playcalling and game management at times in 2013--might consider bringing Turner back as offensive coordinator. Even at the height of those rumors though, Troy Aikman was quick to point out that, after interviewing and being passed over for the head coaching position in 2007, Turner might not be chomping at the bit to return to Dallas as a coordinator.

It should also be pointed out that whether Dallas ever had any real interest in Turner is completely unclear.
