Report: Dez, Jerry Jones Meet for Contract Talks

The Cowboys are trying to get Dez Bryant a long-term deal before the beginning of the regular season

Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant has said he’s prepared to table contract talks if a deal isn’t done by the beginning of the regular season and, with a week and a half until the opener against the San Francisco 49ers, Jerry Jones may be trying to fast track the talks.

Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN Dallas reports that Jones and Bryant had a private meeting on Tuesday at Valley Ranch to discuss a long-term deal. Bryant is entering the final year of his contract and though they can always franchise him next season, the team wants to lock him up long-term.

Bryant was one of two players atop the Cowboys’ front office’s list of priorities going into this offseason. The other was left tackle Tyron Smith, who agreed to a historically large eight-year, $98 million extension last month that will keep him in Dallas through 2023.
